Coral Gables Elevates Public Safety with Ekin Spotter Smart Poles

The City of Coral Gables has once again proven why it is recognized as a pioneer in smart city innovation. In its latest initiative, the City of Coral Gables Innovation and Technology Department (CGIT) installed three new smart city poles powered by Ekin Spotter technology, creating a safer, more connected, and more sustainable urban environment.

As the city itself highlights, these smart poles “enhance public safety, traffic management, connectivity and digital inclusion, smart mobility, environmental programs, economic development programs, and municipal services powered by hyperconnectivity, AI-assisted hyper-automation and data analytics.”

One of the most notable deployments is the AI-powered modular pole at Alhambra Rd. and Douglas Rd., designed by Ekin and Pininfarina. This groundbreaking installation delivers 360° hi-res CCTV, AI-powered traffic safety analytics (ALPR, red-light, speed enforcement), multimodal IoT traffic sensing, and environmental monitoring (air quality, weather). Fully connected to the Coral Gables Community Intelligence Center (CIC), it represents the future of proactive and data-driven urban safety.

Additional poles at Alhambra/Galiano and Salvadore Park & Tennis Center extend these capabilities across the city — integrating with utility monitoring systems, providing public Wi-Fi, and even offering direct 911 video access and AED defibrillator support in emergencies.

With these installations, Coral Gables becomes the first city in the U.S. to deploy Ekin Spotter smart poles at this scale, positioning itself as a true “living lab” for urban innovation. For Ekin, it is a powerful demonstration of how AI-driven enforcement and city intelligence can transform communities by making life safer and smarter for everyone.
